Leo's is now open, amazingly.

The inside has about as much personality as I was expecting.   The decor seems to have been stolen from a mid-size Midwestern city's airport hotel bar.

The bartender's were lovely.  The TV's were enormous and in High Def, although they don't seem to have splurged on the HD cable sports package in order to take advantage of the TVs.  They also did not splurge on music.  We were treated to the sounds of some smooth 70's love songs via a radio station.

The bar is situated right next to a church and a school.  New York law states that the bar's doors must be more than 100 feet away, which means the bar must use its side door and the huge doors that are on the outside can never be used.   Not only is this confusing to the foot traffic passing by but it definitely ruins the aesthetics of the one nice design element in the place.  But, finally after 2 years, it's open.  If they had been smart enough to use their back room in a unique way, like a dart board or pool table, I would go again....but instead there's just some uncomfortable looking wooden tables in Carroll Gardens first Frat Bar.

OMG! Are people wearing tennis shoes and t-shirts in a local bar in New York??? I didn't think people did that?!!!?!

Of course we do. Its the baseball hat that should NEVER be worn, unless you've got a good reason. Like your landlord turned off your water OR you're on a 3 day coke binge and didn't feel it necessary to take the time to bathe.
